Project description

In the summer semester of 2025, we will begin the process-oriented transformation of the Domäne Dornburg in collaboration with LEG Thüringen and the local architecture firm exnovum. Prototypical interventions—both new constructions and conversions—activate the former ox stable as a multifunctional space and serve as experimental models for a sustainable tectonics—a “poetics of sustainable construction.”

Respecting heritage conservation requirements, the existing structure is carefully modified: a new canopy is added, old glass panes are reused to create new windows, heating pipes and sinks are removed in preparation for future uses, and a barrier-free restroom is built. Additionally, new water and sewage lines are installed, openings are created in existing walls, former doorways are closed using reclaimed materials, and curtains are introduced as temporary spatial dividers and acoustic elements.

Through this project, we aim to explore low-threshold, process-based strategies for the transformation of existing buildings—at full scale, in 1:1.
