Project description

Transformative justice (TJ) is an approach that deals with a response to (sexualised) violence in our environments. The focus is not on punishing the perpetrators of violence, but on supporting those affected and changing the social structures that facilitate (sexualised) violence. This approach was developed by trans* people and BIPoCs in order to take joint action against violence in the long term and build networks of concern. The approach is critical of the police.

The aim of the seminar was to develop an understanding of the TJ approach and the social structures that favour violence. This was made possible by external speakers, extensive literature and interactive workshops. Special attention was paid to anti-racist and queer-feminist approaches.

In 2 public conference days, transformative justice, allyship, awareness work, concepts around abolitionism, critique of psychiatry and a critical categorisation of (deportation) camps in Germany and the EU were discussed, debated and shared. The results will continue to be published on Instagram: www.instagram.com/queerfilmfestivalweimar/
