Project description

The inconspicuous title "The Gray Cloth" is deceptive. The music theater / Gesamtkunstwerk, on which students of the Bauhaus University, Honorary Professorship IMMERSIVE MEDIEN have worked, is a colorful 360° fulldome show with live acting and orchestra. The premiere on July 21, 2024 at 7:30 pm will take place in the Zeiss Planetarium Jena and will be broadcast via livestream. The play is based on the whimsical and fantastical novel "Das Graue Tuch und zehn Prozent Weiß" by Paul Scheerbart, published in 1914. The action takes place in an imagined future that could be our present. The play, with its sometimes not entirely unabstruse adventures, is produced by the Jena Fulldome Festival Foundation with students from Weimar, together with teams from Jena, Berlin, Wiesbaden, Heggelbach, Hamburg and Los Angeles.
The performance is part of the celebrations to mark the planetarium's centenary and opens the International Planetarium Society (IPS) conference taking place in Jena and Berlin. In this context, "The Gray Cloth", the English-language version, will be premiered on July 18. The German premiere will follow on July 21. It will also be registered as a Summaery contribution to the project "Towards an immersive Gesamtkunstwerk", WiSe 2023/24 and SoSe 2024.
