Project description
Background: In addition to the main campus, Coudraystraße is the second campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, located close to the city center. The approximately 300-meter-long street connects Sophienstiftsplatz with Schwanseestraße. Although numerous seminar rooms, lecture halls and laboratories of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Language Center, the Bauhaus Continuing Education Academy and various research institutes are located here, the Coudraystraße campus is hardly recognizable as such. The reason for this is the car-friendly street design and the lack of attractive outdoor facilities. Asphalt surfaces and parking lots dominate the picture. In future, Coudraystrasse is to be made more attractive and visible as "Science Mile Q3" in order to make research more accessible and outdoor spaces more usable.
Objective: The focus of the project is on the circulation areas of the Coudraystrasse campus. The task is to develop ideas for transforming the street into a lively campus while maintaining its access function. The task is to develop variants for the redesign and to create a traffic planning design for the most suitable variant for the road space that takes into account current and future usage requirements. In addition to Coudraystrasse, the planning area also includes the adjacent passageway to Heinrich-Heine-Strasse and the integration of Coudraystrasse into the adjacent junctions.
