Project description

Since the 1950s, there has been an extremely lively progressive music scene in Frankfurt am Main and the surrounding area, focussing on blues, rock, folk, modern jazz and later techno. This development was fuelled by the Hessischer Rundfunk radio station and a dedicated concert agency, among other things.

Despite this breeding ground, there is unfortunately still no future-orientated venue for concerts of different musical styles in the Rhine-Main region that is really suitable for small to medium-sized events for up to 1,000 people.

As an attractive addition to the existing range of cultural facilities, the students were therefore asked to design a multifunctional concert hall equipped with technology inspired by science fiction. Its interior architecture should be adaptable to different musical styles such as rock, classical, modern jazz etc. ‘at the touch of a button’. In other words, the central hall was to be able to take on a wide variety of atmospheres through multimedia means. In addition to the design of the hall, all additional ancillary uses such as the entrance and backstage areas and the external appearance also had to be planned accordingly.
