Focus on Digitalisation: The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Presents Three Innovation Projects

As part of the »So digital ist Thüringen« roadshow, Carsten Feller, State Secretary in the Ministerium für Wirstschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft (TMWWDG), paid a visit to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on 22 April 2022. Along with a visit to the Digital Bauhaus Lab, the programme included presentations of projects from the Faculties of Civil Engineering and Media, as well as a lively exchange on Thuringia’s digital strategy.

University Members Reunite at Spring Reception to Kick Off Summer Semester

The 2022 summer semester has begun and the Presidium is thrilled to be able to reunite with university members again. The Presidium invited all university members to a Spring Reception in the courtyard of the Main Building on 21 April 2022 to welcome everyone back to campus and to encourage in-person encounters right at the beginning of the new semester.

SpaceKidHeadCup 2022 - Soapbox building workshop and soapbox race

The best soapbox race on the planet Weimar is entering its 31st round. Traditionally held on 1 May, the event is once again allowed to let the boxes take to the starting line after a two-year pit stop. As in the last race in 2019, the brave racers will jet down Windmühlenstraße. As always, the much-coveted trophies in the "Style" and "Speed" categories await the participants.

Interdisciplinary Team of Students from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Wins German Design Council International Competition with Sustainable Plant Pot

Nora Giuliana Iannone, a Master’s student of architecture, and Massimo Scheidegger, a student from the Bachelor’s programme in Produktdesign, are among the winners of the international »ein&zwanzig« competition with their project »Future Artifact – Charby«. Their design for a planter made of vegetable carbon that binds CO2 is thus one of the total of 21 designs that have been invited to exhibit at the renowned design fair »Salone del Mobile« taking place in Milan from 6 to 12 June 2022.

NOVA art space @ Kunsthaus Erfurt: New rooms for exhibitions at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

With the start of the 2022 summer semester, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will take a decisive step towards having its own university gallery: from April, the university will temporarily use the exhibition rooms of the Kunsthaus Erfurt.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Kicks Off the 2022 Summer Semester

Two years after the outbreak of the pandemic, the new semester will start with in-person classes again. Finally, students and instructors can once again meet face to face in seminar rooms and workrooms, workshops, labs and studios.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Council Elects New Members

In the Wednesday, 6 April 2022 session, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Council elected three new members; Prof. Dr. Karola Wille, Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir and Albert Berger will serve on the Council for a four year term following their appointment by the Ministerium für Wirstschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft (TMWWDG). Prof. Dr. Horst-Michael Ludwig was also newly appointed to the Council as an internal member earlier in March this year.

Historische Weimarer Schlosskapelle »Himmelsburg« ab dem 10. April virtuell erlebbar

Im Rahmen der »Thüringer Bachwochen« können Kunst- und Kulturinteressierte vom 10. April bis 01. Mai 2022 ein exklusives Konzert von Johann Sebastian Bach virtuell erleben: Mithilfe von VR-Brillen und Kopfhören wird die Kantate 182 »Himmelskönig, sei Willkommen« in der historischen Schlosskirche Weimar an ihrem Ursprungsort wieder seh- und hörbar. Realisiert wurde das digitale Klang-Projekt unter Beteiligung der Professur Bauphysik an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes Elected Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Today, Wednesday, 6 April 2022, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Assembly elected Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes as Interim President of the university. Prof. Emes has been carrying out the responsibilities of University President for the last six weeks in her role as the Presidium’s interim President. Interim President is an independent position provided for in the Thuringian Higher Education Act (ThürHG) and is elected to take over duties during the period between when a President leaves office and a new President is elected. The election requires a professorial majority vote from professors belonging to the University Assembly.

Green Hydrogen: Researching Sustainable Infrastructure

In the process of the energy revolution, the state of Thuringia consistently relies on the expertise of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar; in addition to pilot projects in Apolda and Sonneberg, the local production of green hydrogen is now being tested for use in public transport in Weimar. Professor Mark Jensch, head of the Energy Systems Group in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, will be acting as accompanying academic and providing scientific support for the joint project between Thüringer Energie AG (TEAG), the Stadtwerke Weimar Stadtversorgungs GmbH and the Stadtwirtschaft Weimar GmbH.

Am 31. März 2022 wird Prof. Andreas Kästner, Professur Darstellungsmethodik, emeritiert. Aus diesem Anlass zeigt die Ausstellung »Darstellungsmethodik - Ein Fach zwischen Tradition und Cyberspace« im Hauptgebäude der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar eine Auswahl seiner Arbeiten. Zur Eröffnung am 4. April 2022 um 14.00 Uhr sind Interessierte herzlich eingeladen. Die Ausstellung wird bis 30. Mai 2022 zu sehen sein.

»Kultur - Erbe - Aneignung«: Call for Papers für das 7. Internationale Symposium zur Architekturvermittlung

Beiträge für das 7. Internationale Symposium zur Architekturvermittlung können bis 15. April 2022 eingereicht werden. Das Symposium findet vom 24. bis zum 26.03.2023 in Weimar statt und soll gleichermaßen Raum bieten für theoriegeleitete kritische Diskussionen wie für die Präsentation praktischer Bildungsvorhaben sowie die Vernetzung der Teilnehmenden. Veranstalter ist die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in Kooperation mit Architektenkammer Thüringen, Bundesstiftung Baukultur, Deutsches Nationalkomitee für Denkmalschutz, ThILLM.

Auf Klangreise durch Greiz und Umgebung

Studierende der Architektur und Urbanistik sowie der Medienkunst und -gestaltung präsentieren am 8. April in Greiz vier unterschiedliche Audiowalks, die Geschichten in und rund um das Vogtland erzählen. Die Audiowalks sind im Rahmen eines Bauhaus.Moduls in Kooperation zwischen dem Institut für Europäische Urbanistik und dem Experimentellen Radio entstanden.

Bauhaus-Guest Professor Diébédo Francis Kéré Awarded the 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize

Architect Diébédo Francis Kéré is this year’s winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, considered the Nobel Prize of architecture and the highest honour awarded in the field. The jury singled out Kéré in no small part because of his approach to planning and building and his use of local materials in combination with local construction methods, which characterises his work as far more advanced than that of many other architects. Kéré building solutions are not only attuned to their respective locations, but also implemented together with the local community.

Science Camp der Allianz Thüringer Ingenieurwissenschaften großer Erfolg: Studierende entwickeln digitale Zwillinge für Windräder

Vom 7. bis 11. März 2022 fand das erste Science Camp der Allianz Thüringer Ingenieurwissenschaften an der TU Ilmenau statt. 35 Bachelor-Studierende der sieben Hochschulen der Allianz THÜR ING befassten sich eine Woche lang gemeinsam mit dem Thema »Digitaler Zwilling«. In interdisziplinären Teams wurden digitale Abbilder von Windrad-Anlagen entwickelt, die in Echtzeit Sensordaten erfassten und auswerteten.

Special Recognition: Weimar Professor named founding member of the IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy

The IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy was founded this year during the »IEEE VR 2022« conference with the goal of bringing international scientists from the virtual and augmented reality industry and research field together under one roof. Members of the Academy are recognised for their outstanding achievements and contributions in these fields. Prof. Dr. Bernd Fröhlich, Professor of Virtual Reality Systems in the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, was introduced as an inaugural member on 14 March 2022.
