New Faculty Management at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

All four faculties at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have elected new faculty management. The new deans have been appointed by the President and will serve a three-year term at the university until the beginning of the 2025 winter semester.

»Wohnen.Arbeiten.Leben«: Triennale der Moderne mit breitgefächertem Veranstaltungsprogramm in Weimar

Unter dem Motto »Wohnen.Arbeiten.Leben« laden die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, die Klassik Stiftung Weimar, die Weimar GmbH, die IBA Thüringen sowie die Gedenkstätte Buchenwald und das Haus der Weimarer Republik vom 14. bis 16. Oktober 2022 zur diesjährigen Triennale der Moderne. Mit einem vielseitigen Angebot – bestehend aus Ausstellungen und Touren, Workshops, Medieninstallationen und Performances – können interessierte Besucher*innen in der Gründungsstadt des Bauhauses der Geschichte wie auch der Gegenwart der berühmten Hochschule in Weimar nachspüren. Im Fokus steht dabei die Frage, welche Antworten uns die Moderne heute noch bieten kann – angesichts aktueller Herausforderungen wie der Corona-Pandemie, dem Wohnungsmangel oder der Klimakrise.

The exhibition, conceived by Taishi Watanabe, architect and professor at Waseda University in Tokyo, draws on a study visit at Aalto University from 2019 to 2020 and was already shown in different formats in Helsinki, Berlin and Tokyo.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Condemns the Violence and Oppression Committed Against Iranian Women, Students and Academics

On 13 September 2022, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman Zhina (Mahsa) Amini was arrested by the so-called morality police in Tehran for allegedly not wearing her hijab in accordance with government standards. Some days after her arrest, Zhina (Mahsa) Amini died in hospital. Her death was caused by lethal police brutality while in custody.

Zum Beginn des Wintersemesters kehren nicht nur die bereits immatrikulierten Studierenden an die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar zurück, auch zahlreiche Studienanfänger*innen starten mit dem Wintersemester 2022/2023 einen neuen Lebensabschnitt. Mit der Immatrikulationsfeier am Mittwoch, 12. Oktober 2022, ab 17 Uhr, heißt die Universität die neuen Studierenden herzlich willkommen.

New Environmental Officer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Steven Mac Nelly is the new central contact person for sustainability issues at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Since 1 September 2022, he has been responsible for, among other things, assessing the energy footprint of university buildings.

German Design Graduates Show 2022: Exhibition With works From the Produktdesign (Product Design) Department of the Faculty of Art and Design

From 2 to 31 October 2022, visitors will be able to explore outstanding final projects from the Product and Industrial Design departments of the most renowned German design and art colleges at the Design Campus of the Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden [SKD]). Milena Huber, Maren Klamser and Antonia Ney of the Faculty of Art and Design are participating in the exhibition. Artistic staff member Almut Nowack will also be represented with her Master’s thesis from HAWK Hildesheim.

Better Public Transit Connections for the Media Campus at Schwanseestrasse 143: Pilot Project Increases Bus Frequency

A pilot project affecting Line 3 is being launched in Weimar on 4 October 2022. Instead of the hourly service provided up until now, the city buses between the Main Station and Industrial Area West will operate every 30 minutes. This will be a boon particularly for the students and employees of the Faculty of Media as well as employees of the local businesses, but local residents also stand to benefit. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, real-estate company Nexus and its tenants Antenne Thüringen, AWO Regionalverband Mitte-West Thüringen and Desay SV Automotive Europe each contributed 50,000 euros to the financing of the project.

From a Dream to a Project: The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Kreativfonds

Caroline Ektander, born in Sweden in 1982, has been living in Berlin and working as a curator and architect for over ten years. Her work deals with the complex conditions of environmentally hazardous substances, poisons and toxins. She is currently working on her doctorate at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the Faculty of Art and Design, focussing on the restoration of contaminated sites in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. In addition to this, she will be artistically exploring the contaminated ground water at the chemical site through support from the university’s Kreativfonds. Science editor Stephanie Waske asked Ektander about the context of this unusual research field.

»Erinnern gestalten. Orte der NS-Medizinverbrechen« Conference brings together researchers from various fields at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to approach topics of Nazi medical crimes, Nazi-era healthcare polices, and the built environment under National Socialist rule. Participants will be asked how this knowledge can be made accessible while also looking at contemporary forms of commemoration and remembrance. The conference is a joint event between the »Geschichte der Bauhausstraße 11« research project at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the »Landeszentrale für politische Bildung Thüringen«.

From 15 September to 15 December 2022, the Radio Art Residency will be held by composer, producer, musician and sound designer Warrick Swinney. From a Dream to a Project: The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Kreativfonds

Masks used as protection against the coronavirus have produced millions of tonnes of plastic waste. What if this waste could be recycled, even those masks contaminated by the virus? Two Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students could not stop asking themselves this question. Using a 3D printer, they showed what would be possible and created a toothbrush using recycled mask material. Their work is currently on display at the Marta Herford Museum or Art, Architecture, Design.
