Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Students Design New Playground in Weimar’s City Centre

As of Friday, 6 January 2023, Weimar is one playground richer: A new social meeting space in the city centre was unveiled at Obergraben. The »Baukasten« architectural structure was designed by students Helene Sophia Krause and Sophie Littmann as part of their Produktdesign (Product Design) degree programme and realised with support from the Rotary Club Weimar-Bauhaus.

Saving Energy Together – What is the Right Room Temperature?

It’s all over the media: Each degree that we lower room temperature saves gas, therefore lowering energy costs. Legally, all workrooms should be heated to 19°C. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is relying heavily on you to responsibly regulate the temperatures in offices.

Dr. Horst Henrici appointed to another eight-year term as Chancellor of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

On Monday, 19 December 2022, Thuringian Minister for Economy, Science and Digital Society Tiefensee appointed Dr. Horst Henrici for an additional term as Chancellor. The certificate of appointment was handed over at the Ministry headquarters in Erfurt.

From Dortmund to Weimar: Deputy Professor Dr. Sandra Huning

Since 1 October 2022, Dr. Sandra Huning has been Deputy Professor for Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism. Until 30 September 2024, the habilitated urban and spatial planner with a doctorate degree will be serving in place of Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig, who has been appointed State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture (Thüringer Ministerium für Infrastruktur und Landwirtschaft).

Ausstellung im Landgut Holzdorf: »Reconnecting with nature – Teepavillon mit Wasserheilanlage«

Bis Ende März 2023 zeigt die Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik ausgewählte studentische Modelle für einen Teepavillon im Herrenhaus des Landgut Holzdorf. Die Entwürfe stellen einen gestalterischen und funktionellen Bezug zu dem kulturhistorisch sehr wertvollen Ort her und eröffnen Perspektiven für eine Wiederbelebung und weitere Entwicklung des Ortes, der in diesem Jahr den Sonderpreis der Historischen Kommission für Thüringen erhalten hat.

Curating the Feed: Who and What Influences Our Social Media Feeds?

The posts that appear on our social media feeds seem to have mostly been compiled randomly. However, the image feeds – which is to say the visual sequences – in the background actually follow very specific criteria and are tailored precisely to each individual user. Which factors influence this composition? From 1 February 2023, researchers will investigate just this question within the interdisciplinary research project on »Curating the Feed« funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and identify and analyse the various factors.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Honoured With 2022 Ladislav Sutnar Prize

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is this year’s recipient of the Ladislav Sutnar Prize, a prize which has been awarded by the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Czech Republic, since 2021 and recognises the »Gropiusian vision of art and technology«. Prof. Andreas Mühlenberend, Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, accepted the award on behalf of the Presidium during a ceremony held in Pilsen on 15 November 2022.
