University Members Reunite at Spring Reception to Kick Off Summer Semester
The 2022 summer semester has begun and the Presidium is thrilled to be able to reunite with university members again. The Presidium invited all university members to a Spring Reception in the courtyard of the Main Building on 21 April 2022 to welcome everyone back to campus and to encourage in-person encounters right at the beginning of the new semester.
»It’s about time that we start meeting in person again«, said Bauhaus-Universität Weimar President (interim), Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes, in her opening speech welcoming students, instructors and staff who attended the Spring Reception. University members discussed and exchanged ideas about new projects and current plans over drinks and music and enjoyed meeting together in person.
Despite the festive atmosphere, the thoughts of attendees were also with the horrible events unfolding in Ukraine. The Presidium declared solidarity with Ukraine and condemned Russia’s war of aggression. A dominant topic was how to support student, researcher and artist refugees. University members were encouraged to donate to the »Emergency Fund for Students and Academics from Crisis Regions« (Notfallfonds für Studierende und Wissenschaftler*innen aus Krisengebieten), established by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Freundeskreis e.V., which offers quick and uncomplicated financial aid to doctoral candidates, researchers and students in need.
Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes expressed her gratitude to the dedicated student volunteers who have been working tirelessly for months to help in Ukraine.
