Catering tent to open on Marienstraße on 20 January 2019
During the work to renovate the Mensa am Park dining hall, members of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Liszt School of Music Weimar can take advantage of a temporary catering tent. Studierendenwerk Thüringen announced in a press release on Friday, 17 January:
Catering services to begin in tent in Weimar
From 20 January, members of Weimar’s universities will be provided with meals in a temporary catering tent. The tent set up in the area behind the lecture hall on Marienstraße is intended as an interim solution during renovation of the Mensa am Park dining hall. In the first few weeks, meals will only be provided at lunchtime (from 11 am to 2 pm). There will be two meal options to choose from – one of which will be a vegetarian or vegan option – as well as coffee and other hot and cold drinks. Extension of the catering hours to also offer breakfast in the future is currently being reviewed.
»We are delighted to be able to continue offering our guests meals in a heated tent even during the renovation phase,« says Dr. Ralf Schmidt-Röh, Managing Director of Studentenwerk Thüringen.
The relocation will be accompanied by music and the first guests welcomed with a celebratory drink. All meals will be prepared in the dining halls on Ernst-Abbe-Platz and Philosophenweg in Jena, in part also for the dining halls in Weimar. About 800 meals will be provided per day.
An external service provider will take care of transportation of the food and dishes, supported by Studierendenwerk staff. The dishes will also be cleaned in another dining hall in Jena or Erfurt.
The Mensa am Park dining hall and Cafeteria ParkDeck on the first floor of the dining hall opened for the last time on 13 December 2019. Since this time, meals have temporarily been served in the Cafeteria and in the foyer on the ground floor to ensure that food is available throughout the day.
