Bauhaus-Universität Weimar welcomes more than 800 new students
The lecture halls and seminar rooms are filling up again. More than 800 new students are starting their studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar this winter semester. As part of the traditional enrolment ceremony, President Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp cordially invites all first-year students of the four faculties to the Audimax in Steubenstrasse on Wednesday, 11 October 2017 at 5 pm to officially welcome them to the university.
This year, a total of 819 students from 64 countries have so far enrolled in one of some 40 courses of study at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, having successfully navigated the demanding admission processes required for some of the degree programmes.
Gudrun Kopf, Head of the Department for Student and Academic Affairs at the University, who together with her team is responsible for the enrolment process, is satisfied: "This year's number of applicants and enrolments is stable compared to last year, with slight growth. We also managed to register a large number of international enrolments this year, bringing the share of new international students to 24 percent across all faculties," says Ms. Kopf. Since enrolment is still in progress, these figures are preliminary. "The final statistics will not be available until the end of October when the enrolment process is complete, and we expect some late enrolments this year as well."
The new semester also marks the start of the "Digital Engineering" programme, which is offered by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Media. The consecutive Master's degree course, which is held in English, combines subject-specific know-how from the disciplines of civil engineering and computer science and media and will prepare graduates for employment in the field of virtual product and process modeling as well as optimisation.
In addition to the welcome address of the President Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, Mayor Stefan Wolf will deliver a salutation from the city of Weimar. The event will also be an occasion to present the university's higher education and teaching awards, which honour students, young researchers and teaching staff for their outstanding commitment. The band "Duo Ganna Ganna Gryniva & Igor Seiji Moriya" will provide musical accents.
Following the enrolment ceremony, all those present are invited to a champagne reception in the foyer of the University Library. The new students in particular will find the opportunity to talk to future professors and staff as well as their fellow students.
