Bauhaus-Universität Weimar graduates develop an app for the Onion Market
Graduates from the Faculty of Media are giving fans of the Weimar Onion Market a special delicacy. They’ll never miss another event, because they’ll always have an overview thanks to the Zwiebelmarkt app.
Commissioned by the weimar GmbH, Jonas Pencke, David Wiesner and Andreas Thenn developed a free mobile application for iOS, Android and Windows smart phones. Market visitors can now get an overview of the entire stage programme of the three-day festival. Users can easily and quickly assemble their own personalized plan for the Onion Market with the Favorite function. A practical map shows all locations for stages, parking, bathrooms and first-aid. The user can also find his own location with automatic tracking. The app is complemented with useful information about the history of the Onion Market, the City Race and tips about arriving and parking.
The app is based on a system that the three graduates developed under advisement from Prof. Dr. Hagen Höpfner during their Computer Science and Media studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. This made it possible to develop an app quickly and inexpensively for several smart phone operating systems. With the aid of an Exist Scholarship, the software could be made operational at neudeli, the start-up hub of the University. Ultimately, the firm apphoria UG (with limited liability) was founded in 2012.
The app can be downloaded in the respective app stores free of charge.
