Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp Appointed State Secretary of the Thuringian Ministerium für Bildung, Jugend und Sport
Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been asked by Thuringia’s Minister President Bodo Ramelow and Minister of Education Helmut Holter to take up the position of State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministerium für Bildung, Jugend und Sport. Prof. Speitkamp has accepted this offer and will take on this high-ranking position starting on 22 February 2022.
Thuringian Minister President, Bodo Ramelow, stated: »Prof. Dr. Speitkamp, who has been until now President of the innovative Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, is very well networked and a widely connected communicator. It is a great joy for me that he has accepted my proposition to work for the state government.«
Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes, Deputy President and Vice President of International Affairs, Diversity and Transfer, offers her congratulations to Prof. Speitkamp on his new appointment and expresses her appreciation for his commitment to the university: »I wholeheartedly congratulate Mr. Speitkamp on his appointment as State Secretary and thank him for the excellent cooperation in the Presidium. We can look back on five extremely successful years. I have been impressed by his extraordinary commitment and much of our university’s success can be attributed to Mr. Speitkamp. I am pleased that Mr. Speitkamp will continue to be associated with our university in, among other way, through the context of research projects and teaching projects.
Prof. Speitkamp will continue to act as President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar until he moves to the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, 22 February 2022. Prof. Speitkamp stated: »I look back on my time at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with gratitude and pride; we have achieved a tremendous amount for the university over the last five years. I am looking forward to this new challenge in Thuringia. I wish the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar a solid and successful journey.«
After the transition, the Presidium will lead the university in its current structure until a new President is elected. Vice President Prof. Emes will take over the rights and duties of President.
