Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes Elected Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
Today, Wednesday, 6 April 2022, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Assembly elected Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes as Interim President of the university. Prof. Emes has been carrying out the responsibilities of University President for the last six weeks in her role as the Presidium’s interim President. Interim President is an independent position provided for in the Thuringian Higher Education Act (ThürHG) and is elected to take over duties during the period between when a President leaves office and a new President is elected. The election requires a professorial majority vote from professors belonging to the University Assembly.
The next steps will be for Prof. Emes to be appointed as Interim President by the Ministerium für Wirstschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft (TMWWDG). Through this election, the University Assembly has granted the former Vice President a secure mandate to represent the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar for the next few months. At the same times, plans to reorganise areas of responsibility in the Presidium are being set into motion. The University Assembly is made up of members of the University Council and the Senate, and it is chaired by Dr. Thomas Rabe, Chair of the University Council.
»I am delighted that Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes has been elected—by a landslide vote—Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Ms. Emes has already proven her commitment to the further development of the university as a whole in the fields of, for example, digitisation and within the university’s internationalisation as both Prorector and Vice President. She is also a strong supporter of equality and diversity issues. The University Assembly is confident that the office of Interim President is in good hands with Prof. Emes and is looking forward to continued cooperation with her«, says Dr. Thomas Rabe about the election result.
Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes has held the office of Vice President for International Affairs, Diversity & Transfer since 2020. Starting in 2014, she held the position of Prorector and Vice President, where she was entrusted with various University Directorate responsibilities. She was appointed to the professorship of Marketing and Media in the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2011. Prof. Emes’ research focusses on brand management and communication, social networks, international market entry strategies and strategic marketing for digital information products. She has been a member of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) Board of Directors since April 2016.
The election process for voting in a new President at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has also begun; the Senate and the University Council have appointed a search committee for this purpose, which will conduct the multi-stage procedure. The process is expected to be concluded no earlier than autumn 2022.
