Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Council Elects New Chair

The previous chair, Dr. Rainer Ambrosy, stepped down from his position in December 2021, thus necessitating an election. Dr. Rabe has been a member of the Council since October 2019. As chair of the University Council, he is also the chair of the University Assembly, which is made up of the members of the University Council and the Senate. President Dr. Winfried Speitkamp congratulated Dr. Rabe on his election win and wished him success in the university’s major upcoming tasks.

Dr. Thomas Rabe stated: »I am connected on a personal level with the Bauhaus and profoundly fascinated with its unique tradition. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar represents this tradition while at the same time embodying innovative teaching and designing the living environment of tomorrow. The idea of the Bauhaus is lived here and continues to have an enormous appeal and impact today. I am committed to all of this and am very much looking forward to participating in the development of this first-rank institution and contributing my experience and knowledge as chair of the University Council.«

The members of the University Council are appointed by the Thuringian »Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft« for four-year term. In addition to the voting members of the University Council, the members of the Presidium also take part in the meetings in an advisory role and with the right to submit proposals. The Equal Opportunity Representative, Diversity Officer, the chair of the Staff Council and a student representative also have the right to submit proposals and address the Council at meetings.
