2018 Bauhaus Summer School – explore new horizons
From 5 to 31 August 2018, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus will be more international than ever: during this time, the Bauhaus Summer School will bring together over 400 participants from Germany and abroad. With more than 17 language and specialised courses, the university’s summer programme will offer even more variety than it did last year.
Every year in August, current and prospective students and language enthusiasts from around the world come to Weimar for the Bauhaus Summer School. Beside German and foreign language courses, specialised interdisciplinary offers in the fields of architecture and urbanism, art and design, culture and media, and engineering and the environment feature on the programme. The courses lasting two to four weeks encourage participants to tackle new challenges and broaden their cultural and professional horizons through compelling exchanges.
Wide variety of specialised and language courses
»Every year, the courses focus on new topics and largely reflect the unique profile of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Participants are able to improve their language skills and consider a whole range of fascinating interdisciplinary issues,« explains Julia Rosenbusch, who is responsible for coordinating the university’s summer programme. There’s a two-week specialised course in English on »Character Art«, for instance, that will look at the artistic development and design of figurative visuals. Led by graphic designer and illustrator Sarah Hartwig, the course will encourage participants to develop individual concepts and solutions for creating their own figures during different project tasks.
The specialised course on »Understanding Spaces« will give architecture and art enthusiasts the opportunity to refine their perception of the characteristics of places and access these creatively. Lecturer Marie Ulber, who is herself an alumna of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will provide a balanced mix of theory and practice. In addition to lectures, the course programme will also include field trips in Weimar and out into the surrounding area as well as individual project work.
The language courses remain an integral component of the Bauhaus Summer School. Budding linguists can apply up until 15 June 2018 for the intensive German and English language courses that run for two to four weeks. The courses »Deutsch in Weimar«, »English Communication Skills« and »English For Academic Purposes« are geared towards people of all nationalities interested in improving their language skills while familiarising themselves with the unique cultural life and history of Weimar with all its flair.
Experience Weimar
The specialised and language courses are complemented with a cultural programme that will allow course participants to meet new people, network, and discover new places. All are warmly invited to attend the international dinners and games evenings held in a unique intercultural atmosphere at the Haus der Studierenden (House of the Students) or in the nearby park. Films are screened at the local »mon ami« cinema and there are visits to the many museums of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar cultural foundation as well as excursions to Berlin or Dessau to enable course participants to look beyond cultural and disciplinary boundaries, get involved in international exchanges, network, and make friends for life.
