»Culture – Heritage – Appropriation« International Architecture Symposium
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar invites you to the 7th International Architectural Mediation Symposium, titled »Culture – Heritage – Appropriation«, from 24 to 27 March 2023. The symposium is a cooperation between the »Architektenkammer Thüringen«, the »Bundesstiftung Baukultur«, the »Deutschen Nationalkomitee für Denkmalschutz« and the »Thüringer Institut für Lehrerfortbildung, Lehrplanentwicklung und Medien (ThILLM)«.
What role can and should building culture education play in an age of finite resources? How can participatory processes support the appropriation and preservation of architectural heritage? What are the social, political and cultural-historical associated with building culture assets? To what extent can they be overwritten?
These are among the questions that will be addressed by international experts in keynote lectures, panel discussions, workshops, evening talks, as well as a discussion on building culture. Symposium participants represent a wide variety of cultural and disciplinary backgrounds. In addition to academics from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, experts from Poland, England, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Lebanon, Iran, Egypt and South Africa will be in attendance to discuss current issues. Experts from the fields of architecture, urban planning, art, psychology, cultural studies, pedagogy and mediation will also be in attendance.
Registration for the symposium can be in person or online after registering. The attendance fee is 100 euros. Online participation is 50 euros. Students can attend the event for the reduced price of 15 euros.
The »Bundesstiftung Baukultur« building culture discussion titled »Altes neu denken – gesellschaftlicher Umbau durch baukulturelle Bildung?!« is scheduled to take place on Friday, 24 March 2023 from 5 to 10 pm and is independent of conference registration and free of charge.
