Family Day at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on 31 May 2023
On Wednesday, 31 May 2023, the Equal Opportunity Office and the Department of Human Resources Development and Health Management invite you to attend Family Day on university campus. Whilst the wide-ranging informational and entertainment programme is intended to appeal to all members and affiliates of the University, we wish to show our special appreciation for students, doctoral candidates and staff – particularly those with children or care responsibilities. Staff, in consultation with their respective superiors, can claim time spent at Family Day as working time; in this way we hope to ensure all staff have the opportunity to participate in the Family Day.
Family Day will kick off at 8:30 am with a welcome address from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar President Peter Benz in the lower foyer of the University Library. The programme will then be divided, spatially and thematically, into two blocks:
In the morning, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, an informational programme with workshops and lectures on the topics of family-friendliness and care will take place in the rooms of the University Library and the SCC. Discussions in these rooms will explore a wide range of topics including various family models, ways partners can fairly distribute roles and manage time, as well as structural barriers for parents in academic life. In the upper foyer of the Library, advice and support services from Weimar and the University will also be represented with information stands. Furthermore, through various exchange and feedback formats, guests will be invited to share their needs and desires with regard to family-friendliness at the University.
In the afternoon, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, there will be an entertainment programme for families on the University’s main campus. In addition to sporting activities such as skating or wheelchair basketball, creative activities such as crafting or experimenting and educational offers such as the Children’s University or »Brotbüchsenstrecke« (lunchbox lane), the family afternoon programme also offers calmer activities such as mindfulness workshops for children/youths and their parents. A variety of the services offered on campus will also be presented, such as the flexible childcare service »Bauhäuschen«, the Campus.Kinder day-care centre or the University Library.
During the afternoon programme, guests can purchase drinks and snacks in the Bauhaus.Atelier and at M18. Children under the age of 18 will receive a complimentary ice cream in the Bauhaus.Atelier.
