The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar to hold its first »University Day«
The central areas of research at the four faculties of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be the focus of the first »University Day«, scheduled this coming Wednesday, 21 April 2010 at 2 pm.
The guests will not only gain an overview of the most interesting areas of research, but also the chance to meet some of the most promising young researchers and learn more about doctoral study, the Research School and activities at the university’s research department. The event will conclude with a job and recruitment fair for students at the Mensa (student dining hall).
The main event of the »University Day« will be a research colloquium held in the Oberlichtsaal in the main building. The colloquium will comprise four short lectures starting at 2 pm, in which each of the faculties will describe one of their research programmes or artistic projects. Prof. Heiko Bartels from the Faculty of Art and Design will begin with his lecture on »Product – Energy – Design«. Prof. Carsten Könke from the Faculty of Civil Engineering will hold a lecture on »Digital Engineering«, demonstrating how digital technologies are being applied to the field of engineering. Prof. Friedrich Balke from the Faculty of Media will hold a presentation about current cultural-scientific media research. The last lecture by Prof. Bernd Rudolf from the Faculty of Architecture will address the topic of »Experimental Structures«.
Following the presentations, young researchers will take centre stage. Starting at 4:30 pm, the Research Department and the Bauhaus Research School will review and select the best research project posters of the year. In just 60 seconds, the young researchers will have to describe their projects as succinctly and captivatingly as possible. Those with the best presentations will be awarded a prize directly following the competition.
»University Day« will conclude with a ceremony starting at 6 pm in the Oberlichtsaal at which over 20 scholarships will be awarded to gifted students. The jazz orchestra of the College of Music FRANZ LISZT will provide musical accompaniment. The guests will also be shown the film »Reise zum Mars« [Journey to Mars] which was funded through the Kreativfonds [Fund for Creative Projects]. The student Robert Wegener from the doctoral programme »Art and Design/Free Art« will present his project »Der melancholische Osten« (The Melancholy East).
For those who would like to speak with the professors, employees and students about their presentations can do so at a reception in the newly renovated Bauhaus.Atelier starting at 8 pm with music and beverages. The Bauhaus.Atelier, located in the courtyard of the main building, is the central service point for all guests of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The »University Day« reception at 8 pm is also the grand opening of the centre following a three-week trial phase.
