The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presents language certificates to refugees
As an international institution of higher learning, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar stands for openness, diversity of opinion, and tolerance. That is why there was no question that the student body of the university would take on a sustainable role in refugee assistance. Since the autumn of 2015, under the direction of Prof. Frank Eckardt, Professorship Urban Studies and Social Research, students have been offering daily language courses at various locations around the university to teach refugee students German.
Parallel to their studies, up to 50 volunteer student docents take part in teaching the courses, which are very well attended by refugees studying at the university.
On Tuesday, 2 February at 12 pm in the presence of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar President (Rector), Prof. Dr. Ing. Karl Beucke, the first language certificates were be presented to the course participants in the Oberlichtsaal. At the same time, the organisers honoured the student docents, explained the project to the interested public, and presented the outlook for the future of the language classes.
Representatives of the media also attended the event.
