CITY CYCLING 2022: Protecting the Environment by Cycling
The world’s largest cycling campaign »CITY CYCLING« is taking place for the 15th time and is encouraging people to cycle for the benefit of the environment. The Climate Alliance, the largest European city network dedicated to fair and comprehensive climate action, is calling on municipalities and citizens to cycle as many kilometres as possible for three weeks between May and September. In addition to climate protection, the campaign also aims to promote cycling. A team from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is also participating.
In order to give even more attention to the topics of sustainability, climate protection and the promotion of cycling, a team of university members has been formed to start cycling for the university in the International Climate Alliance »CITY CYCLING« campaign. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar team already has over 70 members and there are plans to increase this number.
»Weimar needs a mobility turnaround! It would be great if we could get even more people cycling for the Bauhaus-Universität team. Currently we are sitting at 76 members and are just about the largest team in Weimar. Let's pedal together for a strong cycling promotion, have fun and collect kilometers", explains Lena Becker, student of Urbanism.
Anyone interested in joining the campaign in Weimar can get in some serious pedalling from 11 June to 1 July 2022 and collect kilometres for climate protection. Visit the city of Weimar’s Stadtradeln website to register: https://www.city-cycling.org/weimar. Please note: Be sure to select the »Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (KuB)« when registering.
Racking up Kilometres Made Easy
Kilometres can be added online or simply recorded using the Stadradeln app. Distances cycled are automatically tracked by GPS and the app credits the kilometres to the respective team and municipality. A spin-off company from the TU Dresden has been tracking routes since 2018 and deriving findings on cycling traffic. Additional information can be found under: https://www.city-cycling.org/app
Join in for More Than Just the Sake of the Environment
The teams that cycle the most kilometres on average will receive a national award from the Climate Alliance, as well as quality cycling prizes.
