Campaign for a Cleaner Campus Begins: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Makes a Creative Statement
»Was Du heute kannst entsorgen …« and »Verschwende Deine Gedanken« – these slogans will be posted all over campus at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar over the next few weeks. They are a part of the »Less ego. More respect.« campaign, which is aiming to promote the campus as a creative, harmonious public space where we all interact respectfully with nature. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Presidium hopes to send a creative and empathetic message to show young people interested in studying how to constructively and experimentally interact with one’s environment in the context of studying at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The reasoning behind the campaign, in addition to recruiting students, is to increase clean-up efforts, something that has become necessary after due to an increase in night-time gatherings on campus. Glass bottles and cans are left behind and not disposed of in the bins provided. The noise from portable speakers has become a nuisance for residents in the evenings and should be reduced.
The campaign is aimed in particular at schoolchildren and young adults and hopes to reach them through banners, posters and postcards at affected locations and buildings. Some of the problematic behaviours are taken up humorously and recommend certain degree programmes at the university. The campaign is being implemented by the University Communications Department and supported by illustrator Matthias Seifert, a Bauhaus-Universität Weimar alumnus.
The campaign will kick off with the »Umweltingenierwissenschaften« (Environmental Engineering) degree programme in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the »Medienkultur« degree programme in the Faculty of Media. Other programmes are to follow by spring 2024. All faculties are encouraged to participate and propose corresponding Bachelor degree programmes. The associated website also provides additional information on studying, contact information, and a »suggestion box«.
