Science Day 2025: »What Does Sustainable Mean Here?«

The term sustainable is everywhere, but what does it actually mean? Science Day 2025 at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be exploring this question and invites guests to an interdisciplinary exchange in the Oberlichtsaal on 21 May.

Dr. Ulrike Kuch, Vice President for Social Transformation, will be opening the event at 1:30 pm. This year’s programme focusses on contributions from four junior professors from all of the university faculties. The professors will be providing insights into their research projects and work dealing with the topic of sustainability from different perspectives.

The programme includes a guest lecture by Prof. Dirk E. Hebel from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Prof. Hebel teaches and carries out research at KIT as Professor of Sustainable Construction. In this leadership role, he successfully »builds bridges« between various disciplines that are needed for a sustainability transformation.

Current Research Insights

The event lectures will cover a broad range of topics ranging from innovative materials and technologies to social, ecological, and design issues.

Following the lectures, the participating university members are invited to contribute their questions in a moderated discussion. The discussion between speakers and the audience will be led by Prof. Dr. Conrad Völker and Prof. Dr. Jan Willmann

»Science Day is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about current research topics and approaches. It also gives us the chance to strengthen communication between the faculties«, says Dr. Kristina Schönherr, Research Operations Office Director. Attendees will also have the chance to take part in individual discussions and interdisciplinary professional exchanges during the break.

The event is open to all university members and will take place on Wednesday, 21 May 2025 from 1:30 to 4:45 pm in the Oberlichtsaal in the Main Building. Science Day is organised by the Research Operations Office.
