Media Studies Conference »Nothing Matters« Explores Connections Between Non-Things, Non-Places and Non-Relationships

From 13 to 15 July 2024, the international conference in the Department of Media Studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Media will focus on the materiality of nothingness. Scientists from Germany, the USA, the UK and the Netherlands will look at how nothingness materialises in media formats such as film, literature and games, as well as the practices that give rise to nothingness in the first place.

»Danke, dass ihr dabei wart!«: Bilder des Aktionstags »Weimar zusammen« der Initiative Weltoffenes Thüringen

Am 18. Mai hatte die Initiative Weltoffenes Thüringen landesweit zu Aktionen aufgerufen, um zu zeigen, dass die Mehrheit der Menschen im Land für Demokratie, Rechtsstaatlichkeit und Weltoffenheit steht. In Weimar fand der Aktionstag unter dem Motto »Weimar zusammen« statt, an dem sich viele Bürger*innen der Stadt mit selbst gemachten Schildern und Plakaten beteiligten.

Engineer, Author, Role Model – Roma Agrawal to Give Lecture in Weimar on 30 May

Civil engineer Roma Agrawal became famous for her work on Western Europe’s highest skyscraper, London’s »The Shard«. Originally from India, Agrawal was born with a gift for maths and science and has, in recent years, discovered a new passion: Communications. Through TEDx talks, books and television, she is generating enthusiasm for engineering and technology. On Thursday, 30 May 2024 at 5 pm, Agrawal will be giving a lecture open to the public at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. All those interested in »How a nail built the world« are warmly invited to attend the lecture at Marienstraße 13 Lecture Hall A. The talk will be held in English.

2024’s New Appointees: New Professors Introduce Themselves and Look Ahead to the Future

What impact do new professors have on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and how are they influencing its future? The answers to these questions were evident at the »Neuberufenentag 2024« earlier this week. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has appointed numerous professors and junior professors, including some entirely new posts, since 2022. These 14 scientists, artists and architects will enrich the university through their research expertise, collaborations and teaching programmes and contribute significantly to the university’s image:

Konferenz »Radikale Fürsorge durch Transformative Justice« am 25. Mai

Auf der ersten von zwei öffentlichen Konferenzen im Rahmen des Bauhaus.Moduls »Radikale Fürsorge durch Transformative Justice« kommen am 25. Mai Seminar-Teilnehmer*innen mit Expert*innen ins Gespräch. Zu den Vorträgen, Diskussionen, Workshops und »Küchentischgesprächen« sind Interessierte herzlich eingeladen. Inhaltlich widmen sich beide Konferenzen der Einführung in Transformative Gerechtigkeit, Abolutionismus, der Kritik an Abschiebegefängnissen, Psychatriekritik und Awarenessarbeit. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos.

Weimarer Stadtgespräch am 29. Mai 2024 zu gerechtem Wohnen in der Klimakrise

Auch im Jahr 2024 setzt das Institut für Europäische Urbanistik (IfEU) die Weimarer Stadtgespräche fort. Was ist der konkrete Nutzwert der Urbanistik für eine sozial-ökologische Transformation der Stadt? Am Beispiel von Weimar bzw. Thüringen tritt das IfEU mit verschiedenen gesellschaftlichen Akteuren in einen Dialog darüber, wie die drängenden Herausforderungen eines gerechten und ökologischen Wandels angegangen werden können. Die Reihe wird in Kooperation mit der Stadt Weimar organisiert. Am 29. Mai findet der Nacholtermin für die verschobene Veranstaltung statt.

What Programs are Offered at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and How Do I Apply? The Open Campus Day on 1 June 2024 Provides Answers

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is hosting its annual Open Campus Day from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, 1 June 2024. Which degree programme is right for me? How can I finance my studies? What can I expect of the city of Weimar and on campus? Employees of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Studierendenwerk Thüringen will be on hand to answer these and other questions starting at 9 am in the foyer of the Mensa am Park at Marienstrasse 15. Visitors can obtain general and subject-specific information about study orientation at various information stands.

BAUHAUS.INSIGHTS: Artistic Interventions Create Points of Contact With the Life and Suffering of Forced Labourers During the Nazi Era

In early May, the Museum of Forced Labour under National Socialism was inaugurated at the former Gauforum in Weimar. The permanent exhibition showcases unique and largely unknown materials from the history of forced labour, providing visitors with the opportunity to deeply immerse themselves in this aspect of Germany’s past through eyewitness accounts and interactive features. The documents, images, and case histories on display have been gathered over many years of research in archives across Europe, the United States and Israel. They tell the story of forced labour, focusing on the relationship between the German majority society and the forced labourers.
