Am 21. und 22. Juni 2024 veranstaltet das Graduiertenkolleg Medienanthropologie an der Fakultät Medien einen wissenschaftlichen Workshop zum Thema »Kinder der Krise«. Aus medienanthropologischer, kultur‐ und literaturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive fragt der Workshop nach der Medienbedingtheit sowie den Medienmilieus und Mediatisierungen von Kindheit und Krise. Wie werden mit und durch Medien Kinder und Krisen relationiert? Welche Kinder und kindlichen Medien bringen Krisensituationen jeweils hervor? Wie bewältigen Kinder mit ihrer Hilfe Krisen? Und in welche Krisen geraten sie umgekehrt durch und mit Medien?

Am 11. Juni 2024 lädt das International Heritage Centre (IHZ) zu einem Vortrag von Dr. des. Zsófia Kelm, wissenschaftliche Volontärin im Mies van der Rohe Haus in Berlin, mit anschließender Diskussion ein. Die von Prof. Dr. Jasper Cepl, Professur Theorie und Geschichte der modernen Architektur an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, moderierte Veranstaltung findet statt im Rahmen der Reihe »Debating Heritage«.

The inaugural concrete canoes of Weimar made their début at the regatta event in Heilbronn in 1994. Back then, the student teams from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar had not yet secured a spot on the winners’ podium, but their success has steadily grown over the past three decades. In 2024, a boat crafted from recycled concrete will head to the starting line in competition for the first time. There will be a public test run of the concrete watercraft at 1.30 pm on Wednesday, 5 June, on Schwanseebad Weimar.

From 17 to 22 May 2024, students at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar were able to participate in the election of their student councils, student committees and the Student Employees Council. The electoral office released the final election results on 29 May 2024. I extend my gratitude to all the candidates for their commitment and would like to say congratulations to all who were successfully elected.

On Wednesday, 29 May 2024, the Tag des Lehrens und Lernens (Teaching and Learning Day, TLL) took place for the sixth time at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. This year, the event was held in cooperation with Hochschule Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences for the first time. Students, doctoral candidates, faculty and staff from both universities gathered under the slogan »Stadt Land Lehre – in Freiheit und Demokratie« (»City, Country, Teaching – in Freedom and Democracy«) to explore ways that teaching and learning at Thuringian universities can be made fit for the future. A highlight of the event was the presentation of this year’s Teaching Awards by the Student Government.

Climate protection, digital rights, economic development, education and many other issues are on the line: in an era marked by escalating global challenges and international conflicts, it is crucial for Europe to present a cohesive and forward-looking voice that is united and robust.

Vom 14. bis 16. Juni 2024 findet im Kloster Volkenroda das Festival »Kommmunikationsverstärker« statt, das sich thematisch mit dem Zusammenspiel und Wechselwirkungen von Musik und Architektur beschäftigt. In diesem Kontext kommen während der diesjährigen Sommerkonzerte Architekturstudierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar mit Musiker*innen zusammen. So führen Musiker*innen des Leipziger Gewandhausorchesters am 15. Juni um 17 Uhr, ein Improvisationskonzert auf, zu dem die Musiker*innen von Studierendenarbeiten inspiriert werden. Auch das Bühnenbild und das Wegeleitsystem werden von Studierenden entwickelt, aufgebaut und betreut.

Mit »Lit.Collage«, einem kleinen eigenständigen Festival für Collage und Poesie, kooperieren in diesem Jahr die Poetryfilmtage, die am 31. Mai und 1. Juni 2024 in Weimar stattfinden. Im Fokus stehen Montage- und Collage-Verfahren, die Gestalter*innen oftmals im komplexen Genre des Poesiefilms anwenden. Bereits im Vorfeld fanden Workshops, beispielsweise in den Bereichen Stop-Motion, Text, und Klang, statt. Als Inspirationsquellen dienten dabei Gedichte der drei diesjährigen Festival-Dichterinnen Volha Hapeyeva, Ramona de Jesús und Gisela Kraft.

From 13 to 15 July 2024, the international conference in the Department of Media Studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Media will focus on the materiality of nothingness. Scientists from Germany, the USA, the UK and the Netherlands will look at how nothingness materialises in media formats such as film, literature and games, as well as the practices that give rise to nothingness in the first place.
