Project description

The rapidly increasing density in urban areas and the associated high consumption of building land as a resource make it inevitable to think about ways out. Blocks of flats and high-rise buildings in the architectural style of past decades are certainly not an adequate answer to the climate problem. In contrast to regional construction methods, which were optimally adapted to the surrounding conditions over very long periods of time, the architecture of high-density metropolises is designed independently of climate, building traditions and regional materials and has lost its connection to the location. The result are buildings that are incapable of taking advantage of climatic conditions and compensate for this with elaborate and energy-intensive building technology.
In addition to thinking further about local architectural language, it is also essential to think about minimizing the ecological footprint, and building 'upwards' will remain important. This automatically brings efficient and resource-saving construction methods into focus. Recyclable building materials such as wood, clay, straw, reused materials and hybrid combinations with traditional materials such as steel and concrete to achieve an overall high load-bearing capacity play an important role.
