Project description
Under the age of globalization and with the rapid changes of industrial manufacturing technology and the high-speed urban transformation process, many urban land plots, which were formerly used as factories or with manufacturing functions, are now waiting for the upgrade. In the modern era, the opportunity always comes with challenges. How can we, as urban planners, architects and engineers, revitalize these urban areas, allow them to react flexibly to the new functions and correspondingly with the current urban usage?
Alongside with developmental strategies of ‘German Industry 4.0’ and ‘Made in China 2025’, an academic cooperation between Germany and China is formed via this project, celebrating 100 years Bauhaus and 100 years Shougang-the former state-own steel manufacturing company. In this specific project, which is located in Beijing, the capital of China. It is now waiting for the functional upgrade and renewal into an Industrial heritage Park, which holds events of art and exhibition and opens to the public use.
Targeting at the functional upgrade of the site, this blast furnace revitalization project is one part of the gigantic urban renewal plan in Beijing. This urban renewal plan aims at revitalizing the state-own steel mill industrial area with 8.63 km2 and with 10.600.000 m2 total gross architecture floor area. In order to accommodate the innovative industry, many creative ideas are welcome.
