Summer semester 2019
11 - 100: Behind this combination of numbers lies double the reason to celebrate: 11 years of the Media Art Award in Weimar, and 100 years of the Bauhaus.
Every year, each chair of the Media Art and Design department at the Bauhaus University Weimar submits outstanding thesis from the past two semesters, which are then compiled into an exhibition. A high-calibre jury from well-known institutions of art and culture award the prizes.
The graphic design of the Media Art Award picks up on the schnapps number 11 and the Bauhaus anniversary with the mathematical algorithm Cellular Automata - a visual conversion of mathematical numbers and formulas. In our digitalized world, media art questions the interaction between society and media distractions.
The exhibition at Galerie EIGENHEIM Weimar is integrated into the student exhibition "Summary 2019" and will be open until the end of July. Within walking distance of the newly opened Bauhaus Museum, EIGENHEIM Weimar offers a space for contemporary art and communication.
For graduates of media art and design, the nomination for the Media Art Award brings a large audience, making contacts and a new approach to the exhibition business. At the same time as the Media Art Award, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Film Promotion Prize will be awarded.
We would like to thank Merkur Bank for its many years of commitment and support as a sponsor, as well as Prof. Wolfgang Kissel from the Chair of Media Events at the Bauhaus University Weimar.
