In the project 'I could have been at the beach' right now Maud studies the creation of mental images. She used her artistic practice to imagine and experience possible futures by walking through the current physical landscape. The project consists of two parts. The first took place in the summer of 2018. In the first part of the project Maud walked the 700 kilometres that one day might form the new beach line of the Netherlands. Due to climatological and anthropogenic processes, one third of the country’s land has heights that are lower than that of the sea-level. Were it not for dikes and other engineered structures, big parts of the Netherlands would be devoured by the waves. The question that was explored on the 5 week of the walk was: what happens to the land if the sea levels continue to rise? What will the environment look like when climate change perseveres? The second part is this multimedia instillation, in which the findings of the walk are shown to the public. With friendly support from Frauenförderfonds and Freundeskreis Weimar.
