Project description
Under the umbrella research project of “Playfulness in Interaction Design”, our project “Wall of Fun” will explore playfulness in public spaces through an interactive light installation which reacts to sound based on the volume. Our installation will be around 6 to 8 translucent brick shaped boxes vertically attached to a wall in a public space. These boxes will contain LED strips and all of the boxes will be connected to each other via wires. There will also be sound sensors in this installation. The ‘bricks’ will light up in different bright colours when they sense sound in the surrounding area. The higher the volume of the sound, the higher the bricks will light up as shown in the pictures below. This interaction aims to mimic the animation of a media player i.e. the higher the volume of a song, the higher the bars go and vice versa. This project aims to introduce playfulness in public spaces so that passersby can make sounds in different volumes to see how far up the bricks would light up, by either singing, laughing or playfully raising their voice, etc.
