Project description

From the evening of July 15th to July 17th, 2022 an exhibition will be organized in the Digital Bauhaus Lab of the Bauhaus University Weimar that deals with the opportunities and challenges of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) in an art context.

NFTs, often criticised for their large carbon footprint and being an ecological nightmare pyramid scheme got huge in 2021… and collapsed in 2022…

One of the aims of this exhibition is to consider the full scope and array of features enabled by this technology - both the negative and positive. It is the artists and designers who will continue to develop and improve these technologies over the next decade. NFTs and decentralized technology can become more accessable to a broader audience using art and exhibitions.

Post Physical Playgrounds will feature some of the results of a hybrid workshop developed by the exhibition curators, Brian Bixby and Jörg Brinkmann.

The exhibition will offer visitors an opportunity to view NFT artworks on a large screen and via a VR headset at the Digital Bauhaus Lab (Bauhausstr. 9a, Weimar).

The hybrid event will happen in the Digital Bauhaus Lab and in a virtual gallery on spatial.io at the same time. Some of the students featured in the exhibition will be on site to discuss their artwork and share their experiences creating art on the blockchain.
