Project description

The project dealt with the increasing digitalization of design processes and its effects on the complex perceptions of designers. The project investigated whether the return to analogue, physical design methods could help to accomplish more comprehensibility through an intuitive moment.

An experimental tool based on analog design principles – »Spielraum« for short – was designed. It forms a dynamic and flexible design space in which three-dimensional, physical objects are created. The appearance of the reference samples is modified directly and intuitively.
This work focuses on the design process and the dialogue between material and designer. »Spielraum« counteracts the increasingly digitally conditioned movements through physical and tactile experiences, thus, creating an interplay between knowledge and physical experience.
