Project description

Under pandemic conditions, the workshops were unfortunately not accessible to the first-year students throughout the semester. In order to meet the hygiene requirements, there was a compact 4-week workshop introduction + design exercises in addition to workshop-independent courses lead by the professors.

Following a rotation principle, small groups were briefed in the wood, metal, plastic and plaster workshops and solved short design exercises. The half-day or full-day introductions to the respective workshop dealt with important topics on occupational health and safety as well as getting to know the workshop processes, machines and materials. The design exercises dealt with the handling of materials and the associated production methods as well as processing possibilities on the model. The workshop and design exercises were complemented by the Friday introduction to Rhino.

The interplay of belly - hand - head - computer is a basic principle in the PD studies at BUW and is tried out and lived in the KURZSCHLUSS
