Project description

The task of this design project was to create a center for experiencing and exploring fragile maritime worlds. This was to be done against the background that despite the popularity of seaside vacations, only very few people get to experience the fascination of underwater worlds. Furthermore, it is often ignored what danger is associated with the overbooking of preferred areas with mostly insufficient infrastructure, e.g. in the form of sewage treatment plants, due to water pollution. In addition, the growth dogma that dominates the economy, in addition to high CO2 emissions, also ensures increasing accumulation of non-recyclable waste, which not infrequently also ends up in the sea.
The center to be designed should therefore on the one hand inform visitors about these problems in a factual and at the same time sensual way and motivate them to make a positive contribution to the preservation of maritime worlds through their own behavior. Secondly, researchers should be given the opportunity to further explore relevant relationships and to develop strategies for healing damage that has already occurred.
The building was to be attractively designed in a sustainable manner so that it could become a magnet for visitors. The location close to the sea was chosen by the project itself. Criteria included environmentally friendly accessibility and the harmonious integration of natural boundary conditions.
