Project description

The school bag presented here is intended to exemplify a structural intervention in established product patterns in order to supportively promote the progressive development of a circular economy-capable product culture.

It is a school bag for primary school pupils. The background of the thesis is the fact that the majority of backpacks consumed in our society, and thus the materials associated with them, cannot be recycled after disposal due to their composite processing, but can at best be thermally recycled.
In order to set an example against this phenomenon of unecological composite formation, which occurs more frequently in our product culture, this school bag can be separated completely according to type.

Instead of imprints, embroideries are applied, which are made of the same yarn as the embroidered material.

Taking advantage of the pedagogical moment of primary school age, the backpack conveys to the children that bags are the sum of their parts, thus counteracting the ongoing trend of blackboxing.
In the future, a system of different bags will be developed, which are compatible with the detachable individual parts and can be combined with each other. In this way, the mono-material segments are to be fed into extended cycles of use in order to be used as long or effectively as possible.

The presented model is made of uncolored fabric.
