Project description
Like many other industries, the construction industry makes use of new developments and innovations, which is why the Building Information Modeling (BIM) method, with its multitude of tools, comes into play. In addition, more and more available technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are being used, as they enable better visualization, communication and collaboration over long distances, as well as the simulation of digital data within a project.
In the course of this work a VR-suitable visualization for a Head-Mounted-Display (HMD) based on a workflow was developed. The bridge pier was modelled based on 2D reinforcement drawings. The sequence and duration of the rebar installation was then calculated, so the BIM model became a 4D model that could be used to create animations of the rebar installation. These could be imported and visualized in a game engine, as interface to the HMD. In addition, small interactions between user and VR environment were built in for better control of the visualization.
