Register in the city of Weimar
After your arrival and as soon as you receive your rental contract, you need to register as a new citizen of Weimar at the immigration office ("Ausländerbehörde Weimar"). In order to arrange an appointment, please use the online tool.
Please note that there may be no appointments available temporarily, in that case, please check the website regularly.
Upon the appointment, you will have to show your rental contract as well as the so-called 'Wohnungsgeberbestätigung' filled in by the landlord.
The confirmation of registration will be important for the application for your residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel) and to open a bank account.
Residence Permit
If you are not a citizen of the EU, of an EEA country or Switzerland, you need to change your visa into a residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel). Please make sure to first register your address in Weimar.
For this, you need to apply for a residence permit for educational purposes at the immigration office before your visa expires. Please start the process online (or submit all your documents as hard copies via postal mail): Aufenthaltserlaubnis zum Zweck der Ausbildung
As the residence permit is valid for only a limited period of time you might have to prolong it during your stay. Please contact the International Office regarding the required stamp on your enrolment certificate.
