|Current application period:|
|01.12.2019 - 15.01.2020|
Bachelor and Diploma students may apply from their third semester onwards. The stay abroad then begins in the fifth semester. Master students may apply in the first semester of their programme. For them, the stay abroad starts in the third semester.
Note: The Faculty of Media is an exception. In this faculty, students may apply in the first semester of their programme!
The Application Process
Supervisors responsible for university partner management at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will carry out student's subject selection. You will find their contact details in the invitation to apply for exchange placements. If your first choice is not possible at this time, your second choice will be taken into consideration.
After completing the selection process in your faculty, you will be informed by email about the allocation of placements.
If you have been selected for an exchange placement, please confirm acceptance of the placement within three days via the online application portal. If you do not contact us within this period, your claim to the exchange placement will expire.
If you do not wish to accept the exchange placement, please let us know via the online application portal.
If your application has not been successful, you are welcome to apply for the remaining placements in the second application round (see below).
Students may not change exchange positions with one another.
The International Office provides information events on how to organise your studies abroad. The exact dates of these events will be communicated via the Online-Pinnwand International.
After the first allocation of placements has been completed, the remaining exchange placements will be advertised again on the Internationals Office website.
If you have not received an exchange placement after your first application or if you have missed the first deadline, you may apply again in the second application round for any remaining placements by selecting another first and second choice.
More information on the application dates and deadlines are available on the Online-Pinnwand National.
Note: Because the selection and awarding of placements are completed in the individual faculties at different times, the application dates and deadlines may also differ.
After students have accepted their study placements abroad, the selection will be announced to the partner universities (nomination). Without a nomination by the International Office, it is not possible to submit an application to our partner universities.
As a rule, you will receive a corresponding notification by email. Please note that the nomination process may take some time.
After your nomination, you will have to apply independently to the desired partner university.
Note: Please pay attention to application deadlines! Even if you have been nominated by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, you are personally responsible for contacting your desired host university in good time. Please research the application procedures and deadlines on the website of the partner university.
If you have any difficulties during the application process, please contact the International Office, room 112, during office hours.
Note: In rare cases, contractually agreed exchanges do not take place because the partner university rejects nominated students, especially in degree programmes related to art and design. There are three main reasons for this:
- The capacity in workshops or projects/designs is already exhausted.
- Based on the submitted portfolio no adequate courses or specialist supervision can be ensured.
- The partner university terminates the Erasmus agreement with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar during an ongoing procedure.
Unfortunately, the International Office has no influence on such decisions.
If your application is successful, you will receive a confirmation from our partner university and you will be informed about the next steps.
If you receive a rejection, please contact the International Office, room 112, during office hours.
