Seit 1. Februar 2023 ist der Kunsthistoriker Dr. Jan von Brevern Inhaber der Heisenberg-Professor für Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte an der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik. Mit der Heisenberg-Professur fördert die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) zeitlich befristet den Aufbau von neu geschaffenen Professuren an deutschen Hochschulen. Im Rahmen der Förderung wird die Heisenberg-Professur in drei Jahren evaluiert. Bei positiver Evaluation erfolgt eine Verstetigung an der Fakultät.

On the same day that his term began, the new President was able to chat with members of the university: On Wednesday 1 March, a »Meet and Greet« with Peter Benz was held to toast to a prosperous cooperation. The event was also intended as a heartfelt thank you to President (interim) Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes, who led the university though particularly challenging year. The handover took place at the Erfurter Ministerium on 28 February 2023. The Thuringian Ministerium für Wirstschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft (TMWWDG) published the following announcement:

On 1 March 2023, Peter Benz, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s new president, will take office. The University Assembly elected Benz as President on 1 November 2022. His official appointment by the Thuringian Minister für Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft, Wolfgang Tiefensee, is scheduled to take place on 28 February 2023 in the Erfurter Ministerium.

From 1 to 31 March 2023, Hon. Prof. Micky Remann will visit the Thai Chulalangkorn University in Bangkok as a visiting professor. Together with the Asian students, he will develop concepts for 360-degree projections and performances in lectures and exercises.

Since January 2023, Deputy Prof. Dr. -Ing. Patrick Staubach has been head of the Department of Geotechnics at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Civil Engineering. The doctorate-holding civil engineer previously worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the same department in Weimar, as well as in the Department of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering and Environmental Geotechnics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB). In this interview, Prof. Staubach answers questions about his primary focus in research and teaching.

Mit großer Bestürzung haben das Präsidium und die Angehörigen der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar am gestrigen Mittwoch erfahren, dass Prof. Dr. Christoph Stölzl, langjähriger Präsident der Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar, am Dienstag plötzlich und unerwartet verstorben ist.

On Monday, 19 December 2022, Thuringian Minister for Economy, Science and Digital Society Tiefensee appointed Dr. Horst Henrici for an additional term as Chancellor. The certificate of appointment was handed over at the Ministry headquarters in Erfurt.

Since 1 October 2022, Dr. Sandra Huning has been Deputy Professor for Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism. Until 30 September 2024, the habilitated urban and spatial planner with a doctorate degree will be serving in place of Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig, who has been appointed State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture (Thüringer Ministerium für Infrastruktur und Landwirtschaft).

As of 1 November 2022, Dr.-Ing. Grischa Bertram has been appointed to the Junior Professorship for Spatial Planning and Spatial Research at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism.

On Tuesday, 1 November 2022, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Assembly elected Peter Benz as President.

All four faculties at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have elected new faculty management. The new deans have been appointed by the President and will serve a three-year term at the university until the beginning of the 2025 winter semester.

Steven Mac Nelly is the new central contact person for sustainability issues at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Since 1 September 2022, he has been responsible for, among other things, assessing the energy footprint of university buildings.

A new subject area was launched on 1 September in the Produktdesign (Product Design) degree programme at the Faculty of Art and Design: »Emerging Technologies and Design«. Dr. Thomas Pearce was appointed to the newly created tenure track junior professor position. What does this title mean and how does this >newbie< intend to shape the field in the Produktdesign (Product Design) degree programme?

Martin Siegler, who is a research associate within the Professorship for Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, has been awarded second prize in the humanities and cultural studies section of the 2022 German Study Prize for his dissertation on the subject of media articulations of human existence in emergency and catastrophe situations. Conferred by the Körber Foundation, this award honours outstanding work of particular social significance.

In its meeting on 6 July 2022, the University Senate unanimously voted in Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Osburg as the new Vice President for Research, Arts and Young Academics. The professor for construction chemistry and polymeric building materials was nominated by the Interim President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and appointed for three years beginning immediately after the vote, in accordance with the University Charter. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andrea Osburg’s term in office thus began on 6 July and she will be available at least until the future university president takes office.

On Friday 15 July 2022, Hannes Dünnebier was honoured with the Lyonel Art Prize during the »summaery2022« annual show at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The award for outstanding young artists is endowed with €2,000 and has been conferred to artistic dissertations from the Faculty of Art and Design since 2019 by the Lyonel e. V. association for the promotion of art, design and culture.

»Drawn to the unique profile of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar«, artist and architect Mona Mahall accepted the Professorship of Presentation Methodology in Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism.

Auf der Mitgliederversammlung der Bauhaus Weiterbildungsakademie Weimar (WBA) wurde Ende Mai 2022 ein neuer Vorstand gewählt. Für weitere zwei Jahre wurden Gudrun Kopf, Dezernentin für Studium und Lehre, Dr. Susanne Kirchmeyer, Leiterin des Sprachenzentrums, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Plank-Wiedenbeck, Dekan der Fakultät Bauingenieurwesen, und Prof. Dr.-Ing. Horst-Michael Ludwig, Prodekan Forschung an der Fakultät Bauingenieurwesen, im Amt bestätigt.
