Prof. Dr. Jutta Emes: »Ideenlabor 2022« Delivers Valuable Inspiration
Climate Crisis, Animal Extinction, Sustainability Crisis - But What’s Actually Happening? Dr. Gregor Hagedorn, co-founder of »Scientists for Future« and Academic Director of the »Museum für Naturkunde«, Berlin, concluded that targeted action has so far been too little and too late. His lecture kicked-off the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s »Ideenlabor 2022« on 10 June 2022. Dr. Hagedorn set the tone for the subsequent talks on, among other topics, sustainable living spaces, monument protection and equality.
Over 100 participants registered for debates and workshops that took place in the Audimax and throughout the city of Weimar. The event was supported by Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the International Building Exhibition Thüringen and took place as part of the European Union’s New European Bauhaus Festival. The Festival campaigned for a sustainable, inclusive and aesthetic shift towards making Europe climate-neutral. Attendees exchanged ideas, discovered new things, shared knowledge and celebrated together. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar artist and professor Danica Dakić was invited to the Gare Martime in Brussels for the Festival’s main events. She spoke on the topic of how art, design, architecture and cultural heritage can help shape future societies.
Similar to the »Ideenlabor« theme in Weimar, the focus was on appreciating what already exists. Renovating old buildings, updating monuments, redesigning residential neighbourhoods. Workshops complemented this theme in a practical way through topics such as sustainable traffic concepts and recycled textiles. Professor Dr. Jutta Emes, President (interim) of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, summed up the event: »The >Ideenlabor 2022< has provided valuable inspiration for developing a sustainable future together - for socially inclusive, beautiful and sustainable living spaces, for example. The interchange between art, science and technology in the spirit of the New European Bauhaus is fundamental to us at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. This is a dialogue that will continue.«
