Film screening »Two Houses« at the Bauhaus Museum

The film »Two Houses« will be screened at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar on October 14, 2022 as part of the Triennale der Moderne.

The research project Two Houses at the Chair of Design and Housing at the Bauhaus University Weimar focuses on the interaction between the Bauhaus and Japan through two houses in a suburb of Tokyo - the Migishi Atelier and the Bunzo Yamaguchi House. Both houses were designed in the 1930s and 40s by Japanese architects Iwao Yamawaki (1898-1987), a student of the Bauhaus in Dessau, and Bunzo Yamaguchi (1902-1978), who worked in Walter Gropius' office at the time, and are still privately owned.

The film Two Houses documents the architecture of the buildings, tells the story of their inhabitants, and provides insights into life in and with the houses. It is accompanied by the publication Two Houses - Texte, which includes interviews with Helena Čapková, Terunobu Fujimori, Taishi Watanabe, and Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, as well as texts and images from the film and drawings of the houses in various stages.
