A pilot project affecting Line 3 is being launched in Weimar on 4 October 2022. Instead of the hourly service provided up until now, the city buses between the Main Station and Industrial Area West will operate every 30 minutes. This will be a boon particularly for the students and employees of the Faculty of Media as well as employees of the local businesses, but local residents also stand to benefit. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, real-estate company Nexus and its tenants Antenne Thüringen, AWO Regionalverband Mitte-West Thüringen and Desay SV Automotive Europe each contributed 50,000 euros to the financing of the project.
In April 2022, the Faculty of Media moved into its temporary quarters during renovation of Bauhausstrasse 11. The university and the student body joined forces and consolidated resources to increase the attractiveness of the location at Schwanseestrasse 143 and make it easier for students and employees to get to lectures, the lab or the office. “The Media Faculty Staff Council used a petition to advocate for providing students with a better bus connection. The petition drive gathered 512 signatures, which were then presented to the mayor. This campaign made it clear how important the bus connection is for the students,” explains Faculty Staff Council Chair Patricia Kabisch-Jauck. The University and Faculty Management also sought dialogue with the mayor and local business leaders. All of this yielded positive results: During a trial period lasting just under a year, the city buses on Line 3 will operate at 30-minute intervals between the Main Station and Industrial Area West. To make this possible, Weimar’s public transport company is putting additional buses and drivers on the route.
The greater frequency of Line 3 will make life significantly easier and more convenient for the roughly 600 students at the Faculty of Media. “The fact that the new location of the Faculty of Media is now better connected to the city sends an important signal to all our students and employees and underscores the importance of Weimar as a media and university location. The start of the winter semester will also be much easier for all of us,” says Prof. Dr. Henning Schmidgen, Dean of the Faculty of Media.
