Dear students of the Faculty of Media,
the semester will be soon be coming to an end, and once again it has taken place in the shadow of the pandemic ...
The Corona crisis demands a lot of all of us, but especially of you. Many of you have left your home countries to study and live here Weimar; many of you have had to settle into an environment that is new to you and adapt to a foreign language; all of us have been and continue to be affected by contact restrictions, lockdown requirements, hygiene measures, and security guidelines.
We realise that this situation is not easy. We regularly receive emails from students who are worried about the progress of their degree programme: on the one hand, they are very apprehensive about physically attending written exams; on the other hand, they want to make sure that they can simply complete the courses they have studied for by taking the required exams.
The Faculty management team take all these concerns very seriously and are doing the best we can to enable you to study at our Faculty despite the Corona crisis. To this end, we are in constant communication with the University’s Executive Board; we participate in a large number of crisis meetings (of the crisis unit, the working group on digital teaching, etc.), implementing the appropriate measures and informing you of them in e-mails and on our website. In addition, we continue to report on the latest developments to the Faculty Council, on which students are also represented.
Nevertheless, the situation still puts a considerable strain on us all - not least because many activities and meetings that we would otherwise take for granted are currently not feasible. This is why, if you need additional support and help in coping with this situation, you should not hesitate to contact us. Talk to the programme directors and advisors (Studiengangsleiter*innen / Fachstudienberater*innen), get in touch with members of the teaching staff to discuss any problems you may be having, or take advantage of the central counselling services offered by the Office of Student and Academic Affairs (Dezernat Studium und Lehre): https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/studies/advising-and-consultation-services/
Please also note that the Student Services Organization (Studierendenwerk) has its own psychosocial counseling centre, whose contact person, Annett Kretschmer, can always be reached on Tuesdays 3 to 4 p.m., and Thursdays 10 to 11 a.m. on the following number: 036 43/58 16 81. Outside these hours, Ms. Kretschmer can also be contacted by leaving a message on her answering machine or via e-mail at annett.kretschmer[at]stw-thueringen.de.
In order to help you, the university has also provided an overview of further counselling and support services on this website: https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/structure/central-university-facilities/service-center-for-security-management/psychological-crisis-intervention/
For students with family obligations (childcare or care of relatives), the university's Equal Opportunities Officer, Tina Meinhardt, is available to provide support on 036 43/58 42 40 or via e-mail at tina.meinhardt[at]uni-weimar.de.
Students from abroad are welcome to contact Annette Reese, International Counsellor of the Faculty of Media:
Tel.: 036 43/58 38 88
E-mail: annette.reese[at]uni-weimar.de
In the meantime, on behalf of the Faculty management team, I wish you all a pleasant and successful conclusion to the semester.
Best wishes,
Henning Schmidgen
