Construction measures on the main building of the Faculty of Media (B11)
Since 1997, the Faculty of Media has been using the teaching, research and administration building at Bauhausstraße 11 (B11). The building was built in 1935 and is now a listed historical monument. The current owner and landlord is the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Thüringen (KVT). Accordingly, construction and modernisation measures are being carried out under the leadership of the KVT.
The construction measures began in September 2021 and are scheduled to be completed by 2025. In March 2022, the dean's office, teaching and office space of the departments of Media Studies and Media Informatics, as well as laboratories, pools and student work areas have temporarily moved to Schwanseestraße 143. On this website we will keep you up to date on this temporary solution and the progress of construction at Bauhausstraße 11.
Preliminary work started at Bauhausstraße 11
Even before the actual start of construction in April 2022, necessary preparatory work on the building was started in November 2021, including dry-laying work and sealing work for the basement or the laying of house connections. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Temporary campus at Schwanseestraße 143
In order to make rapid progress with the construction work and to be able to protect the building's users from construction noise and other disturbances, an alternative building has been found for the approximately 80 employees and 500 students who regularly use the building. On the site of the former Limona factory (later Coca Cola) at Schwanseestraße 143, 99427 Weimar, spacious premises can be used from March 2022 until probably summer 2025.
Together with the Service Centre Real Estate and the landlord of the factory premises, these have been converted and modernised according to the usage requirements of the Faculty of Media. Since March 2022, adequate seminar rooms, laboratories, office space and student work areas are available over three floors. A quiet and light-flooded inner courtyard can also be used by faculty members. Other users of the premises include the radio stations Antenne Thüringen and Radio TOP40.
