»Kauf Dir ein Stück Bauhaus!« – The market for unique Christmas presents

The Bauhaus.TransferzentrumDESIGN (BTD) and the Startup Hub »neudeli« would like to invite you to the Main Building of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. On Saturday, 9 December 2017, Henry Van de Velde’s building will be transformed into the Christmas market »Kauf Dir ein Stück Bauhaus!«.

From 10 am until 6 pm, the visitors can choose from all sorts of products crafted by the creative minds of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Once again, some time-tested classics such as Bratwurst-jewellery as well as watches, accessories and vases made of concrete are waiting for Christmas shoppers. They can also expect a broad range of new products.

Fairytale films and wishes from the »Illumat«
Like last year, the Alumni Office and the Bauhaus-Film-Institute are organizing the »Märchenrolle« in the Oberlichtsaal, creating a peaceful space for all those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the market. A selection of fairytale films will be shown between 12 and 4 pm.

The illustration machine »Illumat« fulfils Christmas wishes in its own special way. It will be set up in room 102 of the Main Building, and guests are invited to place their written wishes in the machine. A few minutes later, they will receive illustrated words and sentences. It is the 10th anniversary of this popular project organized by alumni of the Faculty of Art and Design.

Musical soundtrack for architectural masterpieces made out of Lebkuchen
Once again, this year’s Christmas market will include the »LebkuchenHausWettbewerb« of the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism. Students will create Lebkuchen architecture from edible material. The construction phase will take place from 12 to 6 pm in M18. For the first time ever, the final results will be presented in the Oberlichtsaal on the third floor of the Main Building. Starting at approximately 4.30 pm, a panel will present awards for the best entries. The Bauhaus Orchestra (a joint initiative of both Weimar universities) will provide the live soundtrack for the award ceremony. Afterwards, they will perform a Christmas concert.

Huge interest reflected in the number of registrations
»The rush of registrations for this year is overwhelming. Since the start on 24 August, some 100 students, alumni and employees of the university have applied to set up stalls at the Bauhaus Christmas market, « says an enthusiastic Anne Schultke of the Startup Hub »neudeli«. This year she is particularly grateful to the students of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism: »Many architecture students will vacate their work spaces for the day and make them available for the Bauhaus Christmas market. So we will have more space for stalls in the Main Building. There will also be a second location in the Van-de-Velde building«.

About the organizers
The Bauhaus Christmas market under the motto »Treat yourself to a piece of Bauhaus« is organized by Bauhaus.TransferzentrumDESIGN and the Startup Hub »neudeli« with the friendly support of the university. The organisers want this annual event to serve as an occasion for the academic and the professional world to meet. It is intended as a platform for university members to present and make their products available to a broad audience. In addition to the Christmas market, both institutions offer workshops and presentations on the subjects of starting a company and self-employment, or provide counselling for young people from the creative start-up world who want to create and implement business models.
