A total of 52 members from around the world were honoured as »Distinguished Members« on 17 January 2024 by the ACM, an international professional organisation for computer science. The members were recognised for their contributions in the fields of education, technology and science. The expert jury concentrated on individuals who have spearheaded innovation and significantly improved computer science education. Nominees must have at least 15 years of professional experience and ACM membership in order to be considered for the award. 

»I am delighted to have received this award. It not only an acknowledgement of my theoretical contributions in the field of human-machine interaction, but also my many years of commitment to strengthening the TEI community«, said Hornecker.

In 2007, Prof. Hornecker co-founded the ACM International Conference on Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction (TEI). The annual conference focusses on interdisciplinary exchange between developers, designers and the maker community, as well as on new technologies, interactive art and examining the constantly changing user experience. It is important to note that this is one of the few ACM conferences that has an executive committee composed of 50 percent women.

About Prof. Dr. Eva Hornecker:

Dr. Eva Hornecker has held the position of Professor of Human-Computer Interaction at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and is the director of the interdisciplinary Master’s degree programme in the Faculty of Media. She carries out research and teaches at the interface between technology, design and the social sciences. Before coming to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Prof. Hornecker was a lecturer at the University of Strathclyde and at the Open University, both in Great Britain. She also held a post-doc position at the University of Sussex, the Technischen Universität Wien, and at the HitLabNZ in New Zealand, among others. Since October 2022, she has been the Vice Dean of Research and Interfaculty Cooperation in the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
