Prof. Dr. Jan Willmann

Jan Willmann is Professor of the Theory and History of Design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. After studying architecture and theory in Oxford, United Kingdom, he served from 2007-2011 as Scientific and Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Architectural Theory at Innsbruck University in Austria, where he also earned his PhD under Prof. Ir. Bart Lootsma with distinction, and was Senior Assistant of the group of Gramazio Kohler Research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich from 2011 to 2016. Jan Willmann’s research and publications focus on the relationship between the theory and history of design, cultural history, and the history of media and information technology. He has lectured worldwide and is regularly invited as an expert and design critic member, and collaborated with numerous renowned international institutions, such as, for example, the FRAC Centre Orléans, Chicago Architecture Biennial und Palais de Tokyo in Paris. His essays and articles have been published in various journals, including AD/Architectural Design, GAM, Arquitectura Viva, 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing, The Architectural Review, T&A, IEEE, Elsevier Automation & Construction, IJAC und DETAIL. Most recent publication is Robotic Fabrication in Architecture, Art and Design (Springer, 2018).

Michael Braun, B.A.

Michael Braun studied Product Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden and graduated with Distinction. During this time, he has been student representative and study speaker of the Faculty of Design, and was also member of different professorial search committees. In 2014/15 and 2015/16 he received the prestigious “Deutschlandstipendium” of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Michael Braun gained professional experience at various agencies and offices, such as Wolfram Design & Engineering in Dresden and Struppler Industriedesign & roomours in Munich. Since 2016, he is pursuing a master’s degree in “Sustainable Product Cultures” at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and is directing the project „Digital Atlas“ at the Professorship of Theory and History of Design.

Dr. Shradha Chandan

Dr. Shradha Chandan is working as a Scientific Associate at the Professorship of the Theory and History of Design at the Faculty of Art and Design and the International Heritage-Zentrum (IHZ) of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. She was awarded the DAAD Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME) 2023 Fellowship for her ongoing research on Cultural Heritage in the Context of Social Transformations and Community Participation with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Bologna University, and Barcelona University. She studied Architecture at the NIT Bhopal and completed her Master's in Urban Planning at the NIT Jaipur, India, with a Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering scholarship. She earned her doctorate in 2022 with her thesis on integrating community-based participatory research to preserve pilgrim cities of India. She also worked as an Assistant Professor at Lovely Professional University, India. Her research interests include cultural heritage, urban conservation and planning, socio-cultural transformations, and community development.

Philipp Enzmann, B.A.

Philipp Enzmann studied product design at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and graduated in 2021. During his studies, he worked as a student research assistant at the professorship and supported research projects such as "Robotic Printed Morphologies". His final thesis "Lokke" was awarded both the Universal Design Award and a scholarship from the neudeli start-up programme. Philipp Enzmann is leading the teaching and research project "Digital-material objecthood", which is funded as part of the Lernraum.Bauhaus project, and focuses on researching didactic potentials of computer-generated design and manufacturing processes. The project is carried out with the Professorship of Emerging Technologies and Design (Prof. Dr. Thomas Pearce) through, for example, joint project-, skills- and theory modules.

Niklas Hamann, M.A.

Niklas Hamann was born and raised near Chemnitz, Saxony. After graduating from high school, he studied product design at the University of Applied Sciences in Dresden. During his bachelor's degree, he spent time abroad in Aarhus, Denmark, as part of an internship in a dedicated furniture design office. In his Master's degree, also in Dresden, he specialized in computational design and algorithmic modeling. Also due to his successful master's thesis in the field of medical design and 3D printing, Niklas Hamann moved from Dresden to Weimar in 2017 to take up a position as an artistic assistant at Bauhaus University. Here he deepened his specialization by working on the feasibility study "Digital Orthotics". Following this, Niklas Hamann began his third-funded PhD on a corresponding research topic, which is being pursued in collaboration with Rosenkranz Scherer.
