One of Germany's most modern office complexes is being built near Berlin's Südkreuz station: the new headquarters of the energy company Vattenfall. As part of the einBlick-lecture series, Martin Elze from Buro Happold explains how the building project was constructed and designed to reduce the building's carbon footprint. Interested parties are cordially invited to Marienstraße 13, Lecture Hall A, on 19 January 2023 at 5 pm. The language of the lecture will be English.
The EDGE Südkreuz is one of the largest building ensembles planned in modular timber hybrid construction in Germany. It extends over two office buildings, each with six storeys and a connecting underground car park, which is fully equipped with charging stations for e-vehicles. Started as a standard project in an undeveloped area of Berlin, the building project developed into a beacon example of sustainable building through a series of courageous decisions. The project combines two of the most important future aspects of our building industry: Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and the use of solid wood.
Buro Happold was commissioned to create a holistic concept consisting of structural design, technical building equipment, BIM management and sustainability consulting. During the guest lecture, Associate Director Martin Elze will explain the development of the EDGE Südkreuz with a special focus on constructability, the integrated design for a modern office building and the key features that made the project special. This will include an in-depth analysis of the carbon footprint achieved.

einBlick lecture series
At the beginning of the 2011 summer semester, the "einBlick" lecture series was launched for the first time at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Bauhaus University Weimar. As part of the seminars, guests report from engineering practice to present projects from their working lives to students, staff and all interested parties.
