Start of a new course for road safety auditors

On 9 September 2020, this year's certificate course for road safety auditors for motorways, rural roads and through roads was started. It is organized by the Chair of Traffic System Planning and the Bauhaus Further Education Academy.

The course is aimed at employees in administration and engineering offices who work in the transport sector and have several years of working experience. Participants are taught specific knowledge of traffic safety in lectures, which is also applied and deepened during the course by exercises and site visits.

The safety auditors trained and certified in this way are officially authorized to carry out road safety audits. The aim of the audits is to improve road safety and to take appropriate safety aspects into account when designing road traffic facilities. This involves checking whether the respective design has been planned in accordance with the current guidelines and whether the traffic facility is safe from all other points of view and can be used safely by all road users.

The Chair of Traffic System Planning has been offering these courses for out-of-town areas, including through roads, since 2002 and has trained over 200 safety auditors from all over Germany as well as from Luxembourg and Austria. This year's certificate course is attended by 15 prospective auditors from Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
