23rd International workshop “City and Traffic” in Tulln an der Donau

As it has been the case for many years, again this year students and employees of the Chair Transport System Planning participated in the international workshop “City and Traffic”, which took place from 8/-14/7 in the Austrian town Tulln an der Donau.

The workshop, which took place for the 23rd time this year, deals with peculiar traffic-related problems of the respective host city. In international groups of 5-6 students and one supervisor each, deficits of the particular study area are determined, analysed and different proposed solutions are elaborated. The results of the group work are presented in front of all participants and representatives of the city at the close of the workshop. They serve as a foundation and input for the decision maker of the host city in the process of finding measures for the traffic problems. Besides the subject-specific work, the international exchange with students from participating countries is an important element of the workshop as well.

This year, 35 students from nine countries (Germany, Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia) participated in the workshop, which took place in the garden city Tulln for the second time. From Weimar, four students of the master courses Environmental Engineering and Management participated. M.Sc. Johannes Vogel and Dipl.-Ing. Julius Uhlmann, both employees of the Chair, accompanied the group and took on the role of (co-)supervisors in different groups in Tulln.

The workshop was a big success again this year with an active exchange about transport planning and free time spent together. It included a sightseeing tour and a visit to the “Green Art” art exhibition.

The next workshop “City and Traffic” will take place in 2019 in Krakow (Poland).
